we’ve got the earth at our feet, the bars & the beats, the moon & the stars above, the kids in the street, they laugh at defeat, the sun & a sky full of doves, who needs love? here in the town where the river bends, we’re writing songs with no beginning or end, we’ve got a hunch & a message to send, we pack a helluva punch & a brown bag lunch again, family & friends, ladies & gents, please allow me to introduce the band, we’ve got the surf at our feet, sand in our sheets, the moon & the stars above, we’re feeling the heat, the pigs in the street, the sun & a sky full of doves, who needs love? wild women, wilder men, swimming naked in an ocean of sin, salty wounds that’ll never mend, we pack a helluva punch & a brownbag lunch again, family & friends, ladies & gents, show’s over, please give them a hand, we’re making you dance, taking a chance on new romance or maybe a fling, so let’s just wing it,see where it goes, ain’t no point in taking it slow, i’m too old & you’re too young, when push comes to shove, who needs love?

waiting on the weekend, where have all the children gone? sneaking out, sleeping in, they ain’t doing nothing wrong, waiting on the weekend, where have all the women gone? sleeping around, sneaking in, they’re out doing something wrong, cats stray to the rendezvous, gunning for a drop of milk, rats are making a fool of you, spun into a spool of silk, bats in the shed & wolves in the hills waiting on the weekend, where have all the villains gone? sneaking around, creeping in, they’re out doing something wrong, waiting on the weekend, where have all the gentlemen gone? creeping out, keeping it in, they’re out doing something wrong, cats stray to the rendezvous gunning for a drop of milk, rats are making a fool of you, spun into a spool of silk, as they run into pianos & throw them all out of tune, up the stairs, on the roof, to the sun, to the moon, estella, come home, you lovely little lonely thing, you lonely little lovely thing, the field mice are singing, dinner bell’s ringing, estella, i’m bringing you home, you lovely little lonely thing, you lonely little lovely thing, nightingales winging it, cottontails digging it, estella, i’m bringing you home, bats in the shed, wolves in the hills, bats in your head,it gives you the chills

over the steepest ridge, under saint mary’s bridge, the river runs deepest, bustling with bitterness, i reach in my pocket & pull out a locket, the shape of a golden heart, promise we’ll never part, take my coat & keep it on your shoulders, make for the cave in case it gets colder, sleep in the boat & wait till the morning breaks, under the marble ledge there at the river’s edge, the banks are like pavement, sloping with sediment, winding up good & wedged, down the past the cottages, hedges round gardens with mockingbird guardians, staying afloat, braver & bolder, making some waves before we get older, leak in the boat, mend it another day...when the night gives way & light sneaks in the cave, sparrows start to sing & bells begin to ring, then we row downstream, tie around a willow tree, basket full of biscuits, burgundy & cheese, you’ve got lips like cherries, ruby beads of berries, we shall soon be married, we shall be so merry

Birds & Bees 04:07
undercover, high in a tree, his frightened lover hides in the reeds, she’s seeing colors & textures in between, this is the summertime, these are the birds & the bees, he’s got that look in his eyes with a blade at his side, gonna make her his bride by the end of the night, dead or alive, she’s sinking deep in the swamp through the silt & the slop, when her eardrums pop, bubbles rise to the top & all the music stops, he’s talking numbers & he’s counting words, trapping rabbits, now he’s wearing fur, though he reckons that it’s not absurd to walk backwards, baby, backwards, he’s gawking at her like a cat

planets align, city life’s depressing, granite tree line, nature’s a blessing, jasmine & honey wine, lovers undressing, bodies combine, her flesh is refreshing, if i had rope that stretched to the stars i’d throw it as far as the moon to watch her sway in the dark, heaven sent, and land in my arms on a comet, she’s a fern made of lace and the bird on my hand with that hepburn grace, i’m her leading man, for i merely want to give her all the love i can, sweet norma burke needs a leading man, she’s old hollywood before the blue sky disappeared, now the sunset’s draped in a silver shawl and the sea’s a cold broken mirror, she’s an angel and a starlet, she’s a meadow lined with deer, i behold her goodness clearly from afar, ever near, i revere her most sincerely through the ages and the years
